We will pick you up from your hotel to start your 4 day desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga with an unforgettable drive from Marrakech to the Dades Gorge through the High Atlas Mountains. Climb through the Tizi N'Tichka pass (2,260 m) and discover beautiful villages hanging from the mountainsides. Then we proceed to Ouarzazate through the relentless stone desert, to visit the Kasbah of Taourirt and the well known film studios. After your lunch, enjoy your drive through the Dades Valley along the famous Thousand Kasbahs Route, passing the fascinating town of Skoura and to Kelaat Magouna, famous for its roses. After arriving in Boumalne Dadès, have dinner and settle in for the night.
After breakfast at the hotel, we leave the Dades gorges and head towards the Todra gorges: a huge fault reaching 200 m in a narrow valley, dotted with palm groves and Berber villages. After lunch in the gorges, we go further into the Sahara to Merzouga, which has the largest body of natural groundwater in Morocco and sits on the edge of the large sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Merzouga.
After a leisurely breakfast and a visit to the oasis of Merzouga, you will head to the village of the Negroes, Khamlia. These people came from Sudan and were brought north as slaves. You will meet families and enjoy mint tea with them and listen to traditional Gnaoua music. We will then stop at Mfis, a small village located south-east of the dunes, near the coal and copper mines where most of the inhabitants of Merzouga lived. Then, after an additional stop in the village of Merdane, we continue to meet with Berber families before returning to Merzouga for check-in at your hotel. In the afternoon, you will ride your camel to cross the dunes and discover one of the secrets of the "sea of sand". Our stop will be in a virgin oasis. Enjoy the silence of the desert, appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds you, and watch the majestic sunset. Spend the evening under a starry sky, sparkling with an intensity you may never have seen before. Sleep in traditional Berber tents, Khaimas.
After breakfast in the desert, we leave for Rissani where we visit the traditional Berber soub and the ruined casbah of Sijilmassa. Leaving Rissani, we cross the valley of Ziz and Errachidia. We will stop en route for lunch before arriving in Azrou where there is a cedar forest sheltering a troop of Barbary apes. We will then stop at Mfis, a small village located south-east of the dunes, near the coal and copper mines where most of the inhabitants of Merzouga lived.
